As a potential homebuyer, your first step is to interview and hire an agent. The individual that you choose to represent you in buying a home should be someone that you feel completely comfortable with. When I speak with someone who wants to buy a home, I like to start by sitting down with them to get to know them a little better and for them to get to know me. We can go over the many things to consider when buying a property, like the current real estate market and trends in Whatcom County, and discuss what they are looking for in a home. We will discuss the roles and responsibilities in the buying process. We’ll explain the home-buying process, including pre-qualification, the home search, making an offer, the earnest money, counteroffers, mortgage application, inspections, appraisals, closing and taking occupancy. We’ll also explain the seller’s property disclosure, Washington State Agency Law, and answer any questions you have. That way, when we find the house you’re looking for, you’re prepared to make an offer.
